After yet another undefeated week, consisting of a midweek victory over Western Kentucky and a weekend sweep of Missouri, Kentucky has jumped eight spots all the way up to No. 10 in the latest D1Baseball and Baseball America rankings. It is the program’s highest ranking since 2018. The Wildcats remain at No. 1 in the College Baseball RPI.

Success to this level was nearly an afterthought prior to the season, but coach Nick Mingione was extremely confident in his team.

“I had some people in the media group say you’re optimistic about your team this year. I think you guys know this, but I’m a positive person,” Mingione told KSR. “Just being around these guys from the fall, the way they went about their business, it’s hard to give days away.

“We have a bunch of guys that are really hungry. I just knew how competitive they were.”

After their 17-game winning streak was broken last Sunday in the series finale at Alabama, the ‘Cats have started a new one. Kentucky now holds a four-game winning streak, looking ahead to future matchups with Dayton and Georgia this week. A win over Dayton and Georgia would be instrumental in Kentucky’s long-term success, as the schedule tightens up down the stretch

Following an Easter matchup at Georgia, the ‘Cats will face #18 Louisville (at Louisville), #1 LSU (at LSU), Xavier, and Texas A&M (who was ranked No. 5 in Preseason Poll). The entire country will really learn about what this resilient squad is all about.

Kentucky was just one of five Top 25 teams to go undefeated last week, prompting the big jump. With the ‘Cats now rounding out the Top 10, six of the top 10 teams in the country hail from the SEC. Baseball Conference.

Kentucky will look to improve on its 25-3 record this Tuesday when the ‘Cats welcome the Dayton Flyers to Kentucky Proud Park. UK will also look to add to its 8-1 SEC record when the team travels to Athens for a weekend series against Georgia.
