Kentucky Baseball Drops Out of Top 25 Rankings After 0-4 Week
After dropping 10 of their last 13 games and suffering an 0-4 week with a loss to Louisville and a sweep from No. 5 Vanderbilt, Kentucky baseball has fallen out of the D1Baseball and Baseball America Top 25.
The Wildcats are unranked for the first time since March 21st. Since climbing all the way to No. 10 on April 3rd, it has been a steady decline.
Barring a complete collapse, the Bat ‘Cats should have an SEC Tournament bid locked up. They are currently tied for fourth in the East with No. 18 Tennessee at 11-10. Overall, they are tied for the sixth-best conference record. However, we’re at a point where an NCAA Tournament bid may not be as locked up as many thought it would be just two weeks ago.
The latest D1Baseball Field of 64 Projection has yet to be updated, but Kentucky was placed as a No. 2 seed in the Morgantown Region four days ago. Since then, they were handled fairly easily by Vanderbilt. They might find themselves falling to a No. 3 seed in the next projection, inching closer and closer to the bubble. It only gets harder from here.

There will be no midweek game this week for the ‘Cats due to finals, but this weekend they welcome No. 3 South Carolina to Kentucky Proud Park, which may actually be the best team in the country. They’ll host Tennessee Tech at KPP on May 9th before traveling to Knoxville for a weekend series with No. 18 Tennessee. Tennessee Tech knocked off Tennessee 12-5 on April 18th.
Finally, Kentucky will wrap up the regular season with a trip to No. 4 Florida. It’s safe to say that Tennessee Tech is now a must-win and that the ‘Cats must win one of their final three series. If they fail to do that, they will be heading to Hoover having lost seven consecutive SEC series. Not the streak you want to be riding into the postseason.
