Kentucky Baseball Falls Out of Top 10 After Weekend Loss
After a 2-2 week that consisted of a 13-6 midweek win over Dayton and a 2-1 weekend series loss to Georgia, the Bat ‘Cats fell out of the top 10 down to No. 12 in this week’s edition of the D1Baseball and Baseball America Top 25 Rankings.
This is the first drop for Kentucky in the polls this season, as it had been a steady rise for the ‘Cats so far. After entering the Top 25 at No. 23 back in mid-March, Kentucky rose to No. 18 and eventually No. 10 last week before falling back to No. 12 this week.
Kentucky falls after losing back-to-back games for the first time this season. Even though they were both seven-inning affairs in a Sunday doubleheader, those still do some damage on the resume. The Saturday rain delay and playing on Easter on the road were no doubt an effect on this weekend’s performance.
Kentucky’s Tuesday opponent, the rival Louisville Cardinals, jumped all the way over the ‘Cats from No. 18 in last week’s rankings to No. 10 this week. This ensures a Top-15 matchup this week between the ‘Cats and Cards at Jim Patterson Stadium on Tuesday. Get your popcorn ready.

The SEC boasted seven Top 25 teams this week, including No. 1 LSU, No. 3 Florida, No. 4 Vanderbilt, No. 5 Arkansas, No. 6 South Carolina, No. 12 Kentucky and No. 16 Tennessee. The Bat ‘Cats will be facing LSU, Vandy, and South Carolina all within the coming weeks. This is where it gets serious.
With Sunday’s doubleheader loss, Kentucky fell to 27-5 (9-3 SEC) on the season. The ‘Cats will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Louisville for a heated matchup with the No. 10 ranked Cardinals. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EST.
