With Texas and Oklahoma joining the SEC next year, conference schedules are being overhauled across the board. Today, the SEC announced a new scheduling model for baseball. Starting with the 2025 season, each SEC baseball team will face two “permanent” opponents along with eight rotating foes for a total of 30 conference games each spring. Standings will be kept in a single-division format, eliminating divisional standings.

The SEC chose permanent foes for each team based on a number of factors, including geography, traditional opponents, and strength of schedule. Who did Kentucky draw? Two of the toughest teams in the league, Vanderbilt and South Carolina. The Vandy Boys are the reigning SEC Tournament champs and one of the most successful programs in the sport in the past decade, with two national championships to their name (2014, 2019) and five College World Series appearances since 2011. The Gamecocks also have two national titles (2010, 2011), along with 11 College World Series appearances, and 34 NCAA Tournament berths.

Kentucky is 150-157-5 all-time versus Vanderbilt and 45-58 vs. South Carolina. Last season, the Bat Cats swept the No. 3 Gamecocks in Lexington right after being swept by the No. 5 Commodores in Nashville.
