Kentucky Baseball was picked to finish fifth in the SEC East in the annual postseason poll released Thursday, voted on by all 14 head coaches.

The Cats were projected to finish sixth in the SEC East in the 2023 Preseason Poll, but finished tied for fourth place with Tennessee at 16-14.

The SEC East is once again a loaded conference, as the four teams picked to finish ahead of Kentucky (Florida, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, South Carolina) are all ranked in D1Baseball’s Preseason Top 25 Rankings.

Along with the release of the preseason poll, the SEC Baseball Coaches Preseason All-SEC Teams were released as well.

Catcher Devin Burkes was selected to the Second Team, making him the only Wildcat to earn preseason honors. Burkes was ranked as the No. 13 overall catcher in baseball in D1Baseball’s preseason positional rankings.

Burkes was named the 2023 Lexington Regional Most Outstanding Player and hit .291 with 18 2B, 53 RBI, and 9 HR last season.

Arkansas was picked as the favorite to win the SEC with nine votes. 2023 National Champion LSU (3) and 2023 Runner-Up Florida (2) received votes as well.

The Cats open their regular season on the road at USC-Upstate on Feb. 16 and open SEC play at home against Georgia on March 15.
