Kentucky Baseball starting pitcher Cole Stupp out for season
Just before its rubber match against No. 14 Georgia on Sunday afternoon, Kentucky Baseball announced that Friday night starting pitcher Cole Stupp would miss the remainder of the 2022 season due to injury.
The junior out of Milton, GA left his start on Friday night against the Bulldogs in the sixth inning due to a forearm injury. He had made six starts this season, earning a 2-2 record while throwing 25.2 innings, finishing with a 6.31 ERA.
In his six starts this season, Stupp allowed three or more runs on five occasions. His longest start of the season came against High Point on March 11, where he threw six innings, giving up three runs on seven hits while striking out six. On Feb. 25 against Western Michigan, he punched out a season-high nine batters.
Last season, Stupp compiled 13 starts for UK, finishing with a 4.76 ERA. The 6-foot-4 righty compiled eight quality starts, ending the season with a 4-5 win-loss record.

It is unclear who will take over the Friday night responsibilities with Stupp done for the year. South Carolina transfer Magdiel Cotto has started a majority of Kentucky’s Saturday games, though he has been less than effective as he currently sits with an 8.22 ERA over 15.1 innings pitched. Darren Williams made his first start of the season in game two against Georgia, giving up six runs on five hits in four innings of work. Tyler Bosma, who started the rubber match against UGA on Sunday, enters with a 4.08 ERA in four starts.
Following Kentucky’s series against the Bulldogs, they will welcome Eastern Kentucky to Kentucky Proud Park for one game on Tuesday, March 29. Following the Colonels is a weekend series against the current No. 1 team in the nation, the Ole Miss Rebels.
Game one against Ole Miss is slated for Friday, April 1 at 6:30 p.m. EST on the SEC Network+.
