As Southeastern Conference play inches closer and closer for both the Kentucky Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams, it’s time for a good ole Bracketology update.
On Friday morning, ESPN released revised versions of its projected brackets for the 2022 NCAA Tournament; Joe Lunardi updating the men’s side and Charlie Creme doing the same with the women’s. Unfortunately for Kentucky, neither of the Bracketologists have the ‘Cats trending in the correct direction.
John Calipari’s MBB squad came in as a 6-seed in the West Region (San Francisco), according to Lunardi, while Kyra Elzy’s WBB team was dropped down to a 7-seed in the Greensboro Region, per Creme. Compared to preseason predictions, both programs are at least a couple of seeds below the expectation.
Kentucky MBB is projected to play 11-seeded West Virginia (yes please!) while WBB is lined up against 10-seeded Oregon.
Both teams have played nine games apiece, with MBB at 7-2 coming off a road loss to Notre Dame last weekend. They’ll be in Las Vegas tomorrow for an unexpected showdown against North Carolina.

Scenarios illustrate complexity
WBB comes in with a 6-3 record, also losing its most recent outing in a tightly contested road battle against the rival Louisville Cardinals. They were supposed to play Morgan State on Friday, but that game was postponed due to COVID-19 issues with the Lady Bears. Their next outing is now on Sunday against South Carolina-Upstate.
