Anyone involved in college basketball internet at all is familiar with Jon Rothstein. The man who doesn’t have hobbies and just watches college basketball has built quite the social media following. There would not be a “This is March” movement on Twitter/X without Rothstein.

We also wouldn’t have some odd nicknames.

  • Chris Jans (Mississippi State): The Denist
  • Greg Gard (Wisconsin): Silent Assassin
  • Ed Cooley (Georgetown): The American Dream
  • Scott Drew (Baylor): Evolution
  • Kelvin Sampson (Houston): The Houston Redemption
  • Shaheen Holloway (Seton Hall): The People’s Coach
  • Nate Oats (Alabama): My Cousin Vinny
  • Eric Musselman (USC): The Importer
  • Jerome Tang (Kansas State): Clubber Tang

There are also these ridiculous slogans.

  • Chris Holtman (DePaul): More meticulous than a forensics officer.
  • College Park (Maryland): The Spring Break Capital of the Northeast.
  • Omaha (Creighton): Somewhere in Middle America.
  • VCU: A home game at the Siegel Center. More life altering than a 10-day trip to Europe.
  • Miami: More guards than Shawshank.
  • Virginia basketball: A thing of beauty.
  • Purdue: Death. Taxes. Matt Painter.
  • Archie Miller (Rhode Island): More locked in than a CPA on April 14th.

There are many, many more. However, Jon Rothstein never came up with a slogan for John Calipari. Kentucky now has one with Mark Pope at the helm.

While this likely is not Rothstein’s best work, the Big Blue Nation can expect to see this exact same tweet after each win this season. A new era has officially arrived in the Bluegrass. Are you keeping the faith with Mark Pope?
