Kentucky basketball set to host Louisville on December 14
Mark your calendars, Big Blue Nation. The date of Mark Pope’s first head-to-head battle against Pat Kelsey and the Louisville Cardinals has been set.
When will the Kentucky Wildcats host their bitter rivals down I-64? It’ll be an early one, CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein reporting that the matchup will take place on Saturday, December 14 at Rupp Arena.
It’s the earliest the rivalry game has been played since 1993 when the Wildcats beat the Cardinals inside Rupp Arena 78-70 on November 27 — a top-10 matchup between Rick Pitino and Denny Crum. Tony Delk led the way with 19 points in that one, followed by Andre Riddick with 15 and Travis Ford with 14.

They played on December 12 the year before in 1992, then again on the 12th back in 1987 and November 26 in 1983 to round out the dates, just four times it’s been played before the Dec. 14 date scheduled for this season.
Needless to say, the two sides are wanting to get this debut battle between Pope and Kelsey rolling right away. And we’re all the way for it.
