Good morning, Big Blue Nation. Breakfast today is poutine and maple syrup because we have a Canadian-themed edition of this week’s Monday morning rundown.
First, the United States Men’s National Team defeated Canada last night in a thrilling CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinal. (That’s soccer.) Played in Cincinnati’s TQL Stadium, the match went to penalty kicks after each side scored two goals apiece in the 88th minute and beyond. The United States needed an equalizer in the 115th minute to force the shootout.
In PKs, American goalie Matt Turner did his best Dikembe Mutombo impersonation with saves on Canada’s first two shots as the good guys advance to the Gold Cup’s semifinal.
It’s not the first L our friends up North will take this week…

Peach Jam concluded yesterday
Before the flight to Canada, John Calipari and Kentucky’s coaching staff spent a lot of time scouting for the future at Nike EYBL Peach Jam down in South Carolina. On Sunday, Peach Jam concluded with a matchup of the week’s biggest stars in the U16 game: Cooper Flagg (Maine United) versus Cayden and Cameron Boozer (NightRydas Elite). Flagg had 18 and 12, but Brothers Boozer won the game, 58-50, led by Cayden’s game-high 23 points.
In the U17 final, Team Takeover overcame a halftime deficit to beat Vegas Elite, 76-61. Syracuse commit Donnie Freeman was a beast in the second half.
NightRydas Elite is a great name.
NBA Summer League continues
In Las Vegas, the NBA Summer League continues today with six more games out in the desert. Due to, you know, time zones, the action begins on the East Coast at 6 p.m. tonight, with the Memphis Grizzlies and Cleveland Cavaliers leading off the basketball at Cox Pavillion. Five more games will feature some of the best young players and NBA hopefuls from there. However, Kentucky’s two draft picks, Cason Wallace and Chris Livingston, have the night off.
You can watch Oscar Tshiebwe at 8:30 p.m. in his second game playing alongside Isaiah Jackson with the Pacers. Tshiebwe played seven minutes with five points and two rebounds in his debut on Saturday.

It’s Barbasol Championship Week in Kentucky
The PGA TOUR is on its way from the John Deere Classic to Nicholasville, Kentucky, where this week, the Bluegrass hosts the PGA’s Barbasol Championship. Tournament play begins Thursday at Champions at Keene Trace Golf Club, with a spot at The Open on the line to this year’s winner.
You can get your Barbasol Championship tickets here.
Please don’t rain this year.
Did you get picked in the MLB Draft?
I didn’t either, nor did any Kentucky players.
LSU went back-to-back with Paul Skenes at No. 1 and Dylan Crews at No. 2. What a year for the Tigers.

Coaches from Kentucky Football‘s past and present attended a wedding together in Lexington. Rich Brooks shared this photo with Mark Stoops at Lexington Country Club.
By my count, there’d be seven bowl rings in that photo if the coaches wore them.
Laura Rutledge to host Kentucky Sports Radio today
Coming up on Kentucky Sports Radio’s morning airwaves, ESPN’s Laura Rutledge will fill in for Matt Jones from 10 a.m. to noon. Laura will lead Monday’s two-hour show with the regular KSR cast of co-hosts, Ryan Lemond and Drew Franklin. She’d love to hear from you, too.
Tomorrow, Barstool Sports’ Brandon Walker will fill in on Matt’s final day of vacation. Matt returns Wednesday, just in time for Kentucky Basketball’s first exhibition game that afternoon.
Go Cats.
