Kentucky named best college football team in the state (Duh)
Today in “Things You Already Know But Are Nice To See Anyway”: Kentucky is the best college football team in the state. CBS Sports’ Barrett Sallee and Ben Kercheval released their annual list of the top Division I football teams by state, and to absolutely no one’s surprise, probably even Scott Satterfield’s, the Kentucky Wildcats are tops in the Bluegrass.
The duo based their selections on the last three to four years, including head-to-head matchups, championships won, etc. Kentucky’s 3-1 record in the Governor’s Cup in the last four outings and upward trajectory made this one a no-brainer.

“The Wildcats have won two straight Governor’s Cups and three of the last four,” Sallee writes. “Coach Mark Stoops has established the program as one that can consistently win in the trenches and produce an offense that is flexible enough to adapt to any given situation. No disrespect to third-year Louisville coach Scott Satterfield and his program because Cardinals fans have plenty to be excited about, but it’s going to take a couple of rivalry wins to flip the power in the state.”
Good luck getting those anytime soon, Cards. Flexing on Louisville is always fun, but it’s also sweet to see Memphis get the nod over Tennessee in the Volunteer state. Ouch!
Let’s celebrate with some Governor’s Cup highlights.
