Kentucky coaches were out recruiting on Tuesday night
With a full week off in between games, Kentucky men’s basketball assistants are using the break to hit the recruiting trail. Alvin Brooks III and Jason Hart were in Washington D.C. on Tuesday night to check out a couple of high school prospects.
One of them is already committed too. Brooks and Hart started their night in the nation’s Capitol by checking in with Kentucky signee Acaden Lewis. The two assistants were in to watch Lewis’ Sidwell Friends (DC) team take down Saint James (MD) by a final score of 49-23. All three of them posed for a picture that went on Instagram, which Lewis’ dad captioned “Don’t Tell Me We’re Family. Show Me.”
Individual statistics were not made available for this game, but Lewis is only a few days removed from being named MVP of Sidwell Friends’ 58-52 win over Owyhee (ID) at the Hoophall Classic up in Springfield, MA. Kentucky head coach Mark Pope made that trip to see his future floor general.
The four-star point guard looked quite good on Sunday, too. He finished with 15 points, six rebounds, and five assists with zero turnovers in 28 minutes. He shot 5-12 from the floor, 2-6 from deep, and 3-4 from the free-throw line. Two of those five assists made the rounds on social media last night thanks to X/Twitter user @bjpf_. They’re pretty damn sweet.
But Lewis wasn’t the only prospect Brooks and Hart were in to see. They stuck around the area to check out five-star 2026 shooting guard Jordan Smith Jr. and his Paul VI Catholic (VA) squad the same night. Members of the Duke and Georgetown staff were also there to see him in action. Smith scored 18 points in a 61-48 win over DeMatha (MD).

Ranked as the No. 6 overall high school junior in the country, Smith received his offer from Kentucky back in September. He’s already been on visits to Duke, Louisville, Syracuse, and Georgetown. A trip to Lexington hasn’t been scheduled just yet, but Jacob Polacheck of KSR+ reports that his family is eyeing one for “sometime in the spring.” Arkansas is also looking to get him on campus in the near future.
Considered a high-level two-way guard, the 6-foot-3 Smith also participated in the Hoophall Classic over the weekend. He posted 19 points, six rebounds, five assists, three steals, and a block on 7-14 shooting in a 60-57 win over St. John Bosco (CA).
There was some speculation online that Brooks and Hart might also stop by to see five-star 2025 wing Nate Ament, who has Kentucky among his Top 11 schools and plays in Virginia. Ament and Highland (VA) beat Evergreen Christian (VA) by a final score of 83-55 last night. However, Brooks and Hart did not end up making that visit.
Kentucky is also waiting to see what five-star 2025 forward Caleb Wilson does this week. Down to North Carolina, Ohio State, and UK, Wilson is scheduled to announce his college commitment on Thursday. The Tar Heels hold the momentum going into tomorrow’s decision.
