Kentucky commit Stone Saunders breaks Pennsylvania passing touchdown record
The state of Pennsylvania’s all-time leader in passing touchdowns is a future Kentucky Wildcat.
On Friday night, Kentucky quarterback commit Stone Saunders threw two touchdowns in Bishop McDevitt’s 28-21 win over Altoona. Saunders now holds the state’s all-time record with 178 passing touchdowns throughout his impressive high school career, passing Steel-High alum Alex Erby, who broke the previous record less than a full year ago with 176 scores of his own through the air.
Saunders will now look to chase two more of Erby’s state records before making his way to Lexington: career passing yards (13,562) and single-season touchdowns (61). According to MaxPreps, Saunders entered Friday’s game with 11,343 career passing yards and is now up to 22 passing touchdowns on the season through just six games played. He has the chance to play at least eight more games this season, including the playoffs.
Saunders is one of 17 class of 2025 prospects (and one of two quarterbacks) committed to Kentucky. He checks in as a three-star recruit rated as the 696th-best high school senior in the country by the On3 Industry Ranking. Originally recruited to UK by former offensive coordinator Liam Coen, Saunders has remained solid with the Wildcats under new OC Bush Hamdan and is viewed as a key piece of the future.

For good reason, too. Saunders has been lighting up the state of Pennsylvania since he first entered high school. He’s played 14 games in each of his first three seasons while passing for over 3,000 yards and 46-plus touchdowns in all of them. Saunders led Bishop McDevitt to the state championship in 2022 as a sophomore and will look to hoist another trophy later this year.
Saunders chose Kentucky over a loaded group of finalists that included Georgia, Michigan, Nebraska, and Miami (FL). The Big Blue Nation got a good one at QB.
