Kentucky commit Travis Perry headlines Holiday Classic at Lexington Catholic
The majority of Kentucky high school basketball holiday tournaments wrapped up just before Christmas, but there are still plenty of holiday events in the lead-up to the new year. One of them will feature six of KSR’s Top 25 ranked teams in the state (including a future Kentucky Wildcat) and take place right in the middle of Lexington.
The 2023 White, Greer & Maggard Holiday Classic tournament began on Tuesday morning and will continue through Saturday at Lexington Catholic High School. Our friends over at PrepSpin will broadcast each game live too. Click the link here to purchase a day pass for $14.95. If you want to watch the games in person, you can purchase a ticket here.
The headliner for this week’s tournament is four-star class of 2024 point guard Travis Perry, who committed to the Wildcats in November. Perry is the go-to star for No. 3 Lyon County (8-1) with averages of 30.1 points and 5.9 rebounds per game while shooting 56.8 percent from the floor, 43.3. percent from long range, and 78.4 percent from the free throw line.
Perry and Lyon County are coming off an impressive 2-0 stretch in Florida last week at the City of Palms Classic. The 6-foot-1 floor general exploded for 40 points and 10 rebounds (15-22 FG; 7-11 3PT) in a 93-64 win over Buckhorn (AL) before dropping in 30 points (11-25 FG; 5-17 3PT) and eight rebounds in a 74-50 victory against Lexington (SC).
Don’t forget about Perry’s supporting cast though. Seniors Brady Shoulders and Jack Reddick are two of the best players in the entire state. Shoulders averages 18.7 points and 9.8 rebounds per game on 60.9 percent shooting while Reddick averages 16.3 points and 4.6 rebounds per outing on 45.7 percent shooting. With so much top-end talent, the Lyons will be one of the favorites to win this event.

Perry and Lyon County will begin its tournament run on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. EST against Bourbon County (7-3). You can view the entire bracket below.
Perry isn’t the only notable prospect in this event though. Class of 2026 wing Gabe Weis of No. 17 Washington County (7-2) will also take the stage this week. Weis is a 6-foot-7 sophomore who holds offers already from the likes of Cincinnati, Illinois, Iowa, LSU, Texas A&M, and many more. Weis leads his team in scoring at 16.1 points per game to go along with 8.6 rebounds per game while shooting 56.2 percent overall.
Kentucky has yet to extend an offer to Weis, but the Wildcats have been ramping up communication with him. He’ll be one to watch this week and in the years moving forward.
Along with No. 3 Lyon County and No. 17 Washington County, four other KSR Top 25 ranked teams will look to make a run for the championship. No. 2 Lexington Catholic (9-0), the host school, will take on Taylor County (6-6) in the first round while No. 10 DeSales (8-4), No. 12 Frederick Douglass (5-2), and No. 15 Woodford County (7-1) also hope to go deep into the tournament.
