Over the last several weeks, Kentucky has ramped up its interest in five-star shooting guard VJ Edgecombe. The staff continues to make a strong push down the stretch for the 6-foot-4 high school senior.

On Tuesday night, according to Travis Branham of 247Sports, Kentucky assistant coach Chuck Martin was at the City of Palms Classic Basketball Tournament in Fort Myers, FL to watch Edgecombe in action. Members of the UK staff, including head coach John Calipari, have made multiple trips over the last month-plus to watch Edgecombe play in person.

In an interview with On3’s Joe Tipton on Tuesday, Edgecombe said that he’s “leaning one way” and that he’s done taking visits, but a decision date has not yet been set.

Edgecombe is considered the No. 5 overall class of 2024 prospect, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He is the top uncommitted recruit in the class.

Kentucky extended a scholarship to Edgecombe back in September, which came after he announced a top 10 list that did not include the Wildcats. But ever since then, UK has been a legitimate threat in Edgemcombe’s recruitment, joining the likes of Duke and St. John’s as the perceived frontrunners.

Edgecombe’s list previously included Alabama, Baylor, Connecticut, Duke, Florida, Florida State, Miami (FL), Michigan, St. John’s, and the G League Ignite before the ‘Cats jumped in the mix. He’s taken five official visits to Duke, Kentucky, Baylor, Florida, and St. John’s.

“The visit was great to be honest,” Edgecombe told Tipton. “Getting to know Coach Cal more, a legendary coach. Getting to know him more was one of the best things of the visit. Seeing the players, how they develop.”

Kentucky’s momentum continues to build. Can Calipari and company pull it off and land another five-star?
