Kentucky was one of the first programs to extend Robert “RJ” Jones III a scholarship offer. Well over a year later, the Wildcats remain one of the leading candidates to land the talented defensive back.

Earlier this week, Jones announced through social media that he has trimmed his list of interested schools down from 10 to seven. Making the cut were Kentucky, Central Florida, NC State, South Florida, Miami (FL), Louisville, and Illinois. The three schools removed from his group of finalists were Auburn, Florida, and Missouri.

So far, Jones has three official visits scheduled for next month: NC State (June 7), UCF (June 14), and Illinois (June 21). An official visit to USF is also on the docket. He received in-person visits from the UCF staff and NC State staff earlier this month.

Playing for Vero Beach High School in Florida, Jones is considered the No. 895 overall class of 2025 prospect, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. Clocking in at 6-foot-2, 170 pounds, he’s rated as the 73rd-best cornerback in this cycle.

Kentucky initially offered Jones all the way back in January 2023, which came from inside linebackers coach Mike Stoops. At the time, it was his fifth Divison I scholarship and second from an SEC school (Auburn being the first).

Originally expected to commit on May 28, Jones has since pushed back that date to an undetermined point later this summer. We’ll be monitoring to see if he schedules an official visit to Kentucky in the meantime.
