One of Kentucky Football’s star recruiters is a candidate to take a new job.

According to Nick Baumgardner of The Athletic, Wildcats defensive backs coach, Steve Clinkscale, is reportedly being considered to replace former Michigan co-defensive coordinator/defensive backs coach, Maurice Linguist, for the same position with the Wolverines.

Since joining Mark Stoops’ staff back in 2016, Clinkscale has established himself as an excellent recruiter and one who has brought in several high-profile prospects since his arrival. Just to name a few, he’s credited with successfully being able to bring in players such as Justin Rogers, the Wade twins, Marquan McCall, Yusuf Corker, Jeremy Flax, and many, many more. It’s easier just to sift through his page on 247 Sports of his all-time recruits, which is loaded with 4-star talent.

Clinkscale has been critical for Kentucky’s recent boom in recruiting success and losing him to Michigan would be a significant blow to the program.

It was only going to be a matter of time though before Clinks’ name began to surface for new jobs at big-time schools. Not only is he an ace recruiter, but he’s incredible with player development and the results speak for themselves. UK has ranked in the top four of the Southeastern Conference in pass defense three straight seasons, including leading the league in both 2019 and 2020, behind Clinkscale’s leadership.

Now someone please offer Clink a raise and keep him in Lexington.
