Kentucky will go into Neyland Stadium on Saturday as the longshot to beat Tennessee.

According to Vegas Insider, the Wildcats currently sit at a 13.5-point underdog against the Volunteers. The spread initially opened with Tennessee as a 3.5-point favorite over the summer, but after their hot start to the season that includes a perfect 7-0 record and a No. 3 national ranking, all the money is on the Vols to win comfortably.

Kentucky is 5-2-0 against the spread this season while Tennessee is 6-1-0.

ESPN’s Matchup Predictor gives the ‘Cats just a 17.1 percent chance to come away with the road victory. But if you’re looking for a silver lining, UK has a recent track of success as the underdog. Here’s how Mark Stoops coached teams have performed since Lynn Bowden Jr. took over as QB during the middle of the 2019 season. KSR’s Adam Luckett provided the stats.

  • Kentucky is 11-2-1 against the spread (ATS) in its last 14 games as a dog.
  • Kentucky has seven outright wins over Missouri (+10, 2019), Virginia Tech (+2, 2019), Tennessee (+6, 2020), Florida (+7, 2021 and +6, 2022), Louisville (+3, 2021), and Mississippi State (+3.5, 2022) during this stretch.
  • Five of those seven outright wins have come away from Kroger Field.
  • Only Alabama and Georgia have covered the spread as a favorite against Kentucky during this stretch.
  • Kentucky is a perfect 6-0 ATS as an underdog with Will Levis under center with four outright wins.

Kentucky and Tennessee will kick off on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 7:00 p.m. EST on ESPN. Do we sense an upset brewing?
