Kentucky drops series against Aggies; move to 4-8 in SEC play

Well, that stunk.
Kentucky was blown out by double digits in a 17-3 series-clinching loss at Texas A&M on Saturday afternoon. It’s a devastating loss for a team that’s starting to lose opportunities to build a resume.
Bosma stumbles through his start
Tyler Bosma just could not put together a good stretch. Coming off a difficult start last weekend, Bosma labored through nearly four innings while allowing seven runs. Though only three were earned, it was clear that the lefty was not in full control.
He walked two batters in the process and threw three consecutive wild pitches on the way to creating the deficit. Bosma struggled, but it wasn’t entirely his fault. He could’ve walked out of the fourth inning with just the one run, but two straight errors from the usual gold-glove like Ryan Ritter helped load the bases up.
A bases-clearing triple ensued and the Aggies went on to put up five runs in the fourth inning.
Seth Logue followed Bosma and didn’t seem to perform any better in his first relief appearance of the season. The usual Tuesday starter essentially canceled out the two runs the Wildcats scored in the fifth by giving up a two-run shot to Ryan Targac, making it a 9-3 game.
At one point, Reuben Church, who has not thrown a single inning in a Wildcat uniform, had to enter the game at pitcher.

Bats still trying to find a groove
We at least saw some blips of competent offense today. Facing a two-run deficit from the jump, Jake Plastiak launched his ninth home run of the season in the second inning.
The ‘Cats recorded three straight hits to begin the fifth, resulting in a two-RBI single by John Thrasher. Unfortunately though, that’s all Kentucky was able to generate on the day.
Head Coach Nick Mingione and his squad need to regroup back in Lexington and figure out what they need to do to change their fortunes. Their SEC record is already unfavorable and it’s not going to get any easier. It’s not time to mash the panic button on this season, but the clock is definitely ticking.
Kentucky is back out at Kentucky Proud Park this Tuesday when they see another in-state foe come to town. Their one-game set with Bellarmine is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. EST and will be shown on the SEC Network+.
