Kentucky earns 41-37 halftime lead at Texas

Down three ball-handlers, Kentucky holds a slight lead over Texas in Austin at halftime — a strong all-around effort for the Wildcats given the circumstances with personnel.
Amari Williams leads all scorers with nine points — including his first made 3-pointer in blue and white — followed by Otega Oweh and Ansley Almonor with eight apiece, Trent Noah with seven, Brandon Garrison with four, Travis Perry with three and Andrew Carr with two to round out scorers. As a team, the Wildcats are shooting 45.5 percent overall and 23.1 percent from three — but 72.7 percent at the line (8-11).

For the Longhorns, it’s the Tre Johnson show — as expected. The star freshman has 15 points at the half on 6-14 shooting, followed by Tramon Mark with 11 to round out double-digit scorers. Jordan Pope (5) and Ze’Rik Onyema (4) are the only other players with multiple buckets. Texas is shooting 44.4 percent from the field overall and 21.4 percent from three.
