Super Bowl Sunday is another week away but Kentucky Basketball’s next Super Bowl is tomorrow afternoon down in Alabama. A town known for big football games, Tuscaloosa will play host to a big SEC basketball game between the Crimson Tide and your University of Kentucky Wildcats.

Despite its recent death sentence, Coleman Coliseum will be rocking for the Tide’s third straight game against a top-five opponent and the biggest name in the sport.

“It’s going to be sold out like always,” said John Calipari before Kentucky’s flight south. “It’s Kentucky. Here we come. They’ll be ready whether they played four ranked teams.”

“It’s going to be a really hard game to win, we know that.”

Grady, Washington expect Alabama’s best shot

TyTy Washington is a freshman with only four SEC road games on his passport and he already knows what to expect at Alabama. He expects Alabama’s best because Kentucky is in town.

“We already know they’re going to give us their best shot because I feel like every team we play against, they’re always going to give us their best shot just because the name we have on our jerseys,” said Washington. “They’re playing at home too so they’re going to be feeling really good, they’ve probably put up a million shots on those rims already so they’re going to be used to that. The crowd’s going to be on their side, so we know going into it it’s going to be a really fun and challenging task.”

Kellan Grady, he too expects to run into the best version of Alabama on Saturday. Grady said, “To be blunt, we’re coming to town and a lot of times that creates an electric environment. It’s a big game for opponents all the time, so we expect to get the best of them and we’ll be prepared for it.”

Coleman on being ready for Coleman

Earlier in the week, Kentucky assistant Chin Coleman discussed Kentucky’s enthusiasm for playing in tough road environments. “Roadkill,” they say after securing a win in an unfamiliar arena.

“We talk about roadkill and that’s something we talk about, it’s something that we say,” Coleman told reporters. “It’s us against everybody else and our guys are taking that challenge and doing a good job with it.”

He believes the mid-December loss at Notre Dame in Kentucky’s first true road test of the season was an eye-opener for the new group of Wildcats.

“Experience is the best teacher and I think we got the right experience we needed at Notre Dame,” said Coleman. “They had an unbelievable event set up there at that game where they retired one of their great player’s jerseys; they did this, they did that; and they created an environment that prepared us for Texas A&M, prepared us for Auburn, prepared us for Kansas.”

“Coach Cal talks about it all the time; when you put on the Kentucky jersey, you’re everybody’s Super Bowl.”

Saturday’s Super Bowl tips off at 8 p.m. in Alabama’s Coleman Coliseum and on ESPN.
