Kentucky extends 2nd offer of the day to 5-star SG Tre Johnson
It would appear that John Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats are taking a slightly more aggressive approach with their recruiting efforts this year.
Just a few hours after the staff extended an offer to Ian Jackson, a top-three prospect from the ’24 class, on Wednesday afternoon, UK went out and offered another highly-ranked rising junior in Tre Johnson, who is considered a top-five ’24 recruit and No. 4 overall by the On3 Consensus.
Johnson announced the offer through Twitter, thanking Coach Calipari and new assistant coach KT Turner in the process. The 6-foot-6, 180-pound shooting guard hails from Dallas, TX, where Turner has significant recruiting ties that already look to be paying off.
Duke also offered Johnson on Wednesday, just a couple of hours before Kentucky did the same.
Beginning at 12:01 a.m. EST on Wednesday morning, college coaches were finally allowed to make individual contact with soon-to-be high school juniors. Kentucky has since offered two of the staff’s top priorities and has expressed interest in another half-dozen. This time last year when the contact period first opened, UK extended just one offer on the first day, which went to JJ Taylor, who was considered a five-star at the time but has since seen his stock drop significantly.

Michigan prepared to offer No. 1 recruit $10.5M over 4 years
On Wednesday, Johnson quickly heard from the likes of Kentucky, Gonzaga, SMU, Baylor, Missouri, Miami (FL), North Carolina, LSU, Arizona State, Texas, and Longwood to begin the contact period. He told KSR a few weeks ago that the main schools recruiting him at the time were Gonzaga, Kentucky, Arkansas, and Duke.
Kentucky could very well offer another top ’24 prospect by the time the day comes to a close. The staff has its eyes on plenty of future five stars, such as Isaiah Elohim, Elliot Cadeau, and Trentyn Flowers.
