Kentucky will face Texas A&M in Friday's SEC Tournament quarterfinals
Kentucky men’s basketball officially knows its opponents for Friday’s postseason opener.
On Thursday night at the 2024 SEC Tournament in Nashville, the seven-seeded Texas A&M Aggies beat the 10-seeded Ole Miss Rebels, 80-71, setting up a rematch against the Wildcats in under 24 hours. Texas A&M was led by 20 points from Wade Taylor IV while Tyrece Radford wasn’t far behind with 16 of his own. The Aggies shot just 36.9 percent overall and went 5-21 from deep.
Tipoff is set for Friday, March 15 at 7:00 p.m. EST on the SEC Network.
The last time Kentucky took on Texas A&M, it didn’t end well for the ‘Cats. The Aggies took down Kentucky in College Station 97-92 (OT) all the way back on Jan. 13. Wade Taylor IV and Tyrece Radford combined to drop 59 points, although no other Aggie reached double-figures. That was just the third SEC game of the season for UK.
Friday’s rematch will look a bit different than what happened over two months ago.
For Kentucky, Tre Mitchell played 44 minutes in that loss, finishing with eight points, 13 rebounds, and six assists. He’s played just 36 minutes over the Wildcats’ last three games as he continues to recover from multiple injuries. Additionally, freshman center Zvonimir Ivisic was not yet cleared to play by the NCAA while sophomore guard Adou Thiero was also out with an injury.
