Kentucky FaceTimed Dane Key from the postgame locker room celebration
Four-star wideout Dane Key has both Kentucky and South Carolina high on his list of prospective schools in his recruitment. Kentucky is the hometown school where his father, Donte, played linebacker in the early-to-mid 1990s; South Carolina the SEC East rival trying to poach Key from Kentucky’s own backyard with promises of early playing time.
On Saturday, the Gamecocks hosted Key for his official visit to Columbia. A gamble for Shane Beamer’s program, South Carolina of course played Kentucky on Saturday with Key on the sideline to watch two of his top options play head-to-head. The hope there is South Carolina would beat Kentucky in front of Key to give Beamer a bump in the recruitment.
That did not happen.
In the end, it was Kentucky beating South Carolina on Carolina’s own dirt in front of its own fans and Finnish EDM music. Afterward, Kentucky recruiting coordinator Vince Marrow checked in with Key to see if he liked what he saw from the Cats.
The best part is, Marrow FaceTimed Key from Kentucky’s postgame celebration in Williams-Brice Stadium’s visiting locker room, and Key took the call while still on the other side of the building with the losing team.

From KSR’s own Scoop Lemond on Monday’s radio show:
“He’s still at the stadium, game’s over… on a South Carolina visit,” Lemond, a best friend of Donte Key, said on the show. “Coach Marrow calls him from the UK locker room while they’re dancing and celebrating, just so he can hear what it’s like in the UK locker room at that stadium. That’s a boss move.”
Star wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson also made an appearance on the call, according to Lemond, to show Key what it is like to have a good time as a member of the Kentucky Wildcats.
