Kentucky fans made Weetabix the No. 1 selling cereal on Amazon for Amari Williams

Never underestimate the power of the Big Blue Nation, even when it comes to cereal.
Before last night, I didn’t know what Weetabix was, but I doubt it was a bestseller, at least here in America. After Kentucky fans learned that the English breakfast cereal fueled Amari Williams to a big performance in the win over Illinois in the NCAA Tournament, it is now the best-selling cold cereal on Amazon.

Williams finished with eight points (4-11 FG), ten rebounds, six assists, three blocks, and a steal in 26 minutes in Kentucky’s 84-75 win over Illinois. Afterward, at Mark Pope’s encouragement, he shared that part of the reason he had more energy than in the win over Troy was because he swapped his usual road game breakfast of toast out for Weetabix, his childhood breakfast in Nottingham, England.
“It’s like Shredded Wheat — and me saying this is crazy because my parents always forced me to eat it growing up,” Williams said on Sunday. “I had about three of them this morning and Coach Pope joined me too and Brandon Garrison. I feel like that helped my performance today for sure.”
“This is why we need a longer season,” Mark Pope said on his call-in show tonight. “I’ve been coaching Amari Williams, I mean, how many road games have we had? We’ve had 15 road games, or neutral games, something like that, give or take and and we’re sitting there, and he just got a couple pieces of toast.
“You know, Amari, he’s a massive human being, right? And he got a couple pieces of toast for breakfast. I’m like, Amari, what are we doing? You gotta eat man. This is the NCAA Tournament. And he explained and it was incredible.”
If you look at Amazon’s daily sales, you can really see the Big Blue Nation’s influence. Keep in mind this cut off at midnight, so the update we get tomorrow morning on Monday’s sales should be through the roof.

On a more local level, Matt Jones is reporting that the Kentucky Basketball staff bought all the Weetabix from the one store in Lexington that had it in stock. Once Pope learned about Williams’ affection for Weetabix, a UK staffer found an international store in Milwaukee to buy some. Williams, Pope, and Brandon Garrison ate the whole box, crumbling the biscuits up and soaking them in warm milk and sugar, per Williams’ recommendation.

“We ate it all the morning of the game, and then he balled out. And Brandon Garrison had unbelievable physicality and energy in the game. And so, our bigs are on a Weetabix train. I don’t know if they’re going to convince the rest of the team to jump on board for pregame breakfast meal, but I know that will become a every game ritual for for BG and Amari and myself, and so, it’s actually fantastic.”
Even if the rest of the team sticks with their usual breakfasts, Pope hopes the BBN will also hop on the Weetabix train. Judging by today’s Amazon sales, I think they will.
“Everybody in BBN, I welcome you all, if you guys want to join us for morning breakfast and have some Weetabix on Friday morning as we prepare for the game. Warm milk, to me, is key. Little bit of sugar, and apparently it’s also good with some honey and some bananas if you want to go that way. So Kentucky Weetabix Unity March Towards March Madness.”
It’s only a matter of time before Williams finds himself on a Weetabix box, the wholesome NIL content we’re here for. If you’re one of the many who bought some, take a video of yourself trying it and send it to me (@MrsTylerKSR) or Steven Peake (@StevenPeakeKSR) on Twitter so we can feature it in a video later this week.
