The University of Kentucky is honoring its newest member of the College Football Hall of Fame. Wildcat fans will leave the stadium Saturday night with a sweet Tim Couch souvenir.

Tim Couch will be honored during Kentucky’s contest against the top-ranked Georgia Bulldogs. In addition to an on-field introduction and an ovation from Big Blue Nation during his On-Campus Salute, Kentucky is passing out towels for fans in the stands.

These aren’t just towels with a number 2. This prop looks like the jersey he wore for the Wildcats from 1996-98.

Ahead of today’s on-campus salute to the deuce, UK and the National Football Foundation hosted a welcome reception for Couch and his family. The former Kentucky quarterback will become just the sixth Wildcat to enter the College Football Hall of Fame when he’s enshrined in December.

The pride of Hyden was a record-breaker before ever stepping foot in Lexington. Couch was the National Player of the Year in 1995 when the Leslie County quarterback set national records for pass completions (872), passing yards (12,104), and touchdown passes (133). The record-breaking didn’t stop once he got to Kentucky.

Fortunately, Couch spurned Phil Fulmer and hung around long enough for Hal Mumme to arrive with the Air Raid offense in 1997. Over the next two seasons that tandem revolutionized college football.

Couch concluded his college career with 795 completions in 1,184 attempts (67.1 percent) for 8,435 yards and 74 touchdowns. He broke seven NCAA records, 14 SEC records, and 26 school records. In 1998 Couch was a Heisman finalist, a Consensus First Team All-American, and SEC Player of the Year.
