The way we use preseason media guides has changed following the advent of technology and late roster moves. However, this Old Head still gets excited every summer when we get our first look at the upcoming Kentucky football team.

Since there is so much change, each year the outstanding UK Sports Information Department publishes a Fact Book and a Record Book. The finishing touches are still being put on each, but there are still a few things we can learn from the first draft of the 2024 Kentucky Football Fact Book.

Defensive tackle Dennious Jackson has not yet officially joined the team. The junior college transfer announced his commitment one week ago. He’s expected to arrive in Lexington in the coming weeks ahead of training camp.

One other thing to consider: not all of the weights listed are completely up to date. Most are still from the spring roster. Most remarkably, DL Kendrick Gilbert was listed at 258 this spring after arriving at 292 pounds. UK officials say the redshirt freshman is back up to 275 pounds. There will be more updates when the action begins on the practice field in August.

Max Hairston is likely one of just three Kentucky Wildcats to earn Preseason First Team All-SEC honors. He led the SEC in interceptions while wearing No. 31. This fall the cornerback is No. 1.

The are two other number changes. Khamari Anderson previously wore No. 82 and this fall he will be No. 15. Ohio State transfer Ben Christman started his Kentucky career as No. 52. The OG missed the entire 2023 season with a leg injury and now he will be No. 70.
