Kentucky Football Adds Homegrown Talent, Former Air Force Falcon
The Kentucky football roster is extremely fluid in the lead-up to kickoff. This week there is a new addition. Former Boyle County standout Sage Dawson is joining Mark Stoops’ program, a team spokesperson confirmed to Kentucky Sports Radio.
Dawson signed with the Air Force Academy in February. He initially planned to just play football, but the baseball coach was intrigued by his athleticism and invited him to join the squad. The funny thing about plans, they have a way of changing.
Rather than go through the rigors of a two-sport scholarship athlete at a military academy in Colorado Springs, Dawson is staying closer to home to be a walk-on for the Kentucky Wildcats.
Last fall, Dawson was the Class 4A Player of the Year after leading Boyle County to the school’s fourth-straight state title. A two-way star, he played cornerback and quarterback for the Rebels. A two-year starter under center, in 2023 Dawson threw for 2,509 yards and 29 touchdowns. He also tallied just shy of 400 rushing yards and four touchdowns.

“I had expectations for him and he rose to meet those every time,” Boyle County head coach Justin Haddix said at Dawson’s signing day ceremony.
Dawson will join another former Boyle County star in Lexington, Tommy Ziesmer. This year the Rebels are the favorites to win a fifth-straight title and are the No. 1 overall team, regardless of class, in the KSR Preseason Top 25 Rankings. They open the season Saturday at 5 pm EST in the Rafferty’s Bowl at WKU against No. 20 Lexington Christian.
