In 38 days the coolers will be packed. The parking lots will fill up as the twilight sun invites the Big Blue Nation back to Kroger Field. It will be Football Time in the Bluegrass before you know it. Let’s continue to count down the days until Kentucky football returns to the Commonwealth.

That Time Lamar Fumbled

The Battle for the Governor’s Cup was tied 38-38 when a guy who did the Heisman Trophy pose fumbled it right into the hands of the Kentucky football team. As you might remember, Louisville lost to Kentucky right before Lamar Jackson won that Heisman Trophy. It was all thanks to an Austin MacGinnis field goal and a mistake from the greatest player to ever suit up for Louisville, who also lost to Kentucky. The final score: Kentucky 41, No. 11 Louisville 38.

Kentucky Football Records

Two Kentucky football players have rushed for more than 3800 yards in their illustrious careers, Benny Snell and Sonny Collins. Snell surpassed Collins’ all-time rushing mark in 2018 with 40 fewer career attempts. Snell concluded his career with 38 more rushing yards than the three-time first team All-SEC selection.

As a true freshman Jared Lorenzen accounted for 3827 yards of total offense in Hal Mumme’s Air Raid. It’s the second-most yards ever produced by a Wildcat in a single-season, trailing only Tim Couch’s 1998 Heisman campaign.

Terry Wilson completed 338 passes on 520 attempts. The .650 completion percentage is the third-best in school history.

Finally, last season Quandre Mosely picked off a pass and returned it 38 yards for a touchdown against New Mexico State. He’s currently fighting to make an NFL roster at Dallas Cowboys training camp.
