KSR Gameday, presented by FanDuel: Kentucky goes Streak-Snapping at Mississippi State
For the second time in three years, the Big Blue Nation is growing weary in the middle of a three-game Kentucky football losing streak. In 2021, Liam Coen’s first season in Lexington, the Wildcats bounced back by winning three-straight en route to a 9-win regular season. Can this Kentucky football team repeat history? It all starts Saturday night at Mississippi State.
The Bulldogs are limping into the homestretch with a 1-4 record in SEC play. First-year head coach Zac Arnett transitioned offenses this offseason, and the new pro-style scheme has struggled without some of its top players. QB Will Rogers has missed almost a month of game action and RB Jo’Quavious “Woody” Marks was sidelined last week. It looks like they’ll be out once again this weekend.
The Kentucky offense has an opportunity to hit its stride in Starkville. Mississippi State has the worst scoring defense in the SEC and opposing quarterbacks are completing better than 72% of their passes, the highest in all of college football. Davis Wade Stadium has not been kind to this program over the last 15 years, but the time is right for Kentucky to get right on the road.

Feels like ’98 at Mississippi State
The Bulldogs are pushing all of their chips into the middle of the table. Desperate for a win to have a shot at bowl eligibility, today they’ll celebrate the best team they’ve fielded since the first SEC merger in the early 90s. Jackie Sherrill and a slew of former Bulldogs from their 8-3 SEC West Championship season in 1998 are returning to Mississippi State to celebrate the team’s 25th anniversary. In addition to the homecoming, the Bulldogs are wearing throwback uniforms that mirror the ’98 team’s.
Uniforms and the Hype Video
Kentucky will ice out the Bulldogs’ maroon. The Cats are wearing all-white uniforms with white helmets to Mississippi State. Kentucky is 11-14 under Mark Stoops in all-white uniforms, 1-1 this season.
