Can Kentucky End a Bad Season by Making History?
This has been one of the most painful seasons for Kentucky football fans in a long time. The Wildcats went 1-7 in SEC play, the worst conference record since Mark Stoops’ first season. They’ve lost seven straight SEC games at home and didn’t score more than 20 points in a conference game this fall. There is legitimate heat on Stoops and yet, all of it will matter a lot less today if Kentucky can beat the brakes off of Louisville.
The Cats are seeking a record sixth-straight win over Louisville in the Governor’s Cup. The Cards have only beaten Kentucky once since the Obama administration and they needed Lamar Jackson to do it. Kentucky has a mental leg-up on Louisville and despite the difficult circumstances from this season, that edge isn’t going anywhere. If the Cats come ready to play, today could very well become the most fun Big Blue Nation has had in a few months.
Cutter Boley will Start for Kentucky
It’s the first time a true freshman quarterback has ever started for Kentucky in this series. After throwing for 160 yards in one half against the best pass defense in the nation, homegrown gunslinger Cutter Boley will be under center this afternoon.
“I’m super excited. Physically, I’m feeling great. Mentally, I’m the best I’ve been at all year in terms of the gameplan, football, and everything,” Boley said earlier this week. “Growing up as a kid, being a huge UK fan, it means a lot to me to be able to start in the Governor’s Cup.”

Kentucky vs. Louisville Gambling Angles
Kentucky is a 4-point underdog with a total of 49.5, giving us a projected final score of around 27-23.
The Cats are ‘dogs vs. the Cards. Sound familiar? Kentucky has won this game outright as an underdog three times since 2016. Mark Stoops is 7-2-1 ATS in this series and his team is 4-0 ATS this season as an underdog. Meanwhile, Louisville is 0-4-1 ATS as a road favorite under Jeff Brohm. The head coach is 2-7-1 ATS as a road favorite dating back to 2019. For more history on this series and a detailed look at Louisville, take a closer look at Adam Luckett’s Scouting Report on KSR+.
Kentucky Rocks All-Black at Frigid Kroger Field
Football Weather is here. Temperatures will be in the mid-30s at kickoff, but it will feel close to the mid-20s with 20 mph wind gusts at Kroger Field. That may throw a wrinkle in how these teams perform.
The visitors from the Derby City will have red helmets with white pants and white jerseys. Kentucky is blacking it out. Two years ago in this game, we saw the black matte helmets for the first time. They’re returning this afternoon with black jerseys and black pants. Mark Stoops is 1-4 when his team wears all-black uniforms.
A Wild Night at Rupp Arena
If you were still feeling the sluggish after-effects from Thanksgiving, you got a wake-up call from Clash Peters Friday night. The Georgia State forward, a nephew of Cherokee Parks, brought the hammer to Rupp Arena, and I mean that quite literally. His hard foul on Amari Williams started a scuffle that lit a spark for the Wildcats, who turned an 8-point game into a 29-point win. It was a high-flying second half that provided a LOT to unpack. Here’s what we got so far from the 105-76 win over Georgia State.
