It may be canceled for most kids, but school is (almost) back in session at the University of Kentucky. That means the dorms on South Campus are filling up with new Wildcats.

Wednesday served as move-in day for 11 Kentucky football players who signed in early December. Fifteen years ago, these guys would still be finishing their senior years of high school by wrestling or playing basketball. Now they’re finishing high school in December and arriving on college campuses in time for spring practice.

Georgia DB DeMarcus Gardner shared a snapshot of himself inside his new dorm, as did Paducah Tilghman product Martels Carter.

One player provided a pleasant surprise for Big Blue Nation. Dejerrian Miller was arguably the most sought-after signature during the early signing period. Kentucky received his paperwork a day later than the rest of the group, causing a few from BBN to sweat it out. Not only did they seal the deal and sign arguably the most talented wide receiver to their class, the large X-receiver is enrolling early for the spring semester.

The new Cats will get their feet wet this weekend and start classes on Monday. I hope they brought their winter coats.

Coaches Can Hit the Road Recruiting

This used to be one of the most active periods of the year for recruiting. Coaches spent days and weeks on the road, hitting the pavement to bring in the best high school recruits.

Coaches have been given the green light to go on the road, but it’s not exactly a priority right now. First and foremost, the transfer portal has replaced February’s National Signing Day. Those free agents are coming to campuses, rather than coaches visiting them in their homes. Secondly, coaches can only visit underclassmen at schools. Last I checked, there aren’t many schools in session around the Commonwealth this week.

It’s a little weird, but we’ll keep you updated on KSBoard when we see the Kentucky coaching staff on the road. There’s one guy who’s loving life on the road and that’s Chapel Bill. These photos are awkward in all of the right ways.
