Kentucky Football Prepares for Spring Transfer Portal Window to Open
The 2024 Blue-White Spring Game marked the end of spring practice for the Kentucky football program. It transitions us to the next phase of the offseason. Roster construction has become a 24/7/365 job and it cranks up a notch with the opening of the spring transfer portal window.
The transfer portal opens on Tuesday, April 16 for new applicants. Unlike the first window, this one is much shorter, lasting only two weeks until April 30. Players must submit their names into the transfer portal during this two-week window but can wait longer to decide on their next destination.
In addition to the transfer portal, there is now an open contact period in recruiting. Coaches can conduct in-person meetings and evaluations off of campus until May 25.
Departing Kentucky Football Players
Following the Kentucky spring game, Mark Stoops was asked how involved the Wildcats would be in the upcoming transfer portal window. “We’ll see,” he said.

For Kentucky to add players, as they did this afternoon with JUCO OT Anfernee Crease, some Wildcats must seek greener pastures elsewhere. RB La’Vell Wright announced last week he will become a graduate transfer and WR Cole Lanter shared this afternoon that he will hit the portal.
“I need to lose a few. I need to get to 85. If I want to gain some, I got to lose a few,” said Stoops.
