UK Football Recruiting Notes: Cristian Conyer Headlines SEC Recruiting Battles
The KSR news wire is moving a little slower than normal on a Monday. June has a way of doing that. However, the football recruiting world is still furiously spinning, providing a few pieces of information that need to be shared with the Big Blue Nation, beginning with this weekend’s high-profile visitors, namely Cristian Conyer.
Back and Forth for Cristian Conyer
The last week of Cristian Conyer‘s recruitment has featured a few twists and turns. It all started when Tennessee appeared to gain momentum. On3’s Chad Simmons was one of a few recruiting analysts to place a prediction for the Vols. KSR held strong with a UK prediction ahead of his official visit. After a weekend in Lexington, Kentucky appears to have turned the tables on Tennessee. Simmons has flipped his prediction to UK, echoing the positive sentiment shared by folks around Lexington. The Wildcats are now the overwhelming favorite in On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine.
Do not pop the champagne just yet, BBN. While it appears Kentucky is on the verge of closing on the three-star cornerback from Bowling Green, he will spend his final recruiting weekend officially visiting Tennessee. Conyer announces his decision July 3, but as we’ve seen over the last week, a lot can change in a short amount of time.
SEC Recruiting Battles Ignite
Tennessee is not the only SEC school Kentucky is battling on the recruiting front. Over the last two years the Wildcats have been a thorn in Auburn’s side, securing eleventh-hour commitments from Trevin Wallace and Ja’Kobi Albert in back-to-back classes. The Tigers are trying to reverse roles with a pair of players.
Karmello English is on Auburn’s campus for an official visit a little more than a week after visiting Kentucky. Tomorrow the four-star wide receiver will be joined by Naquil Bertrand, a powerful offensive tackle that spent his weekend officially visiting Kentucky. A year ago I would have guaranteed at least one UK commitment, but without the area’s ace-in-the-hole, Jon Sumrall, still on Mark Stoops’ coaching, rolling the dice is a bit more difficult.
Another one of this weekend’s official visitors will take a trip to an SEC foe this week. Jaden Robinson will be in Columbia this week as South Carolina appears to be the Cats’ top competition fro the talented linebacker.
Latest on Robert Stafford
Kentucky got four-star cornerback Robert Stafford to Lexington on an official visit two weeks ago. The talented athlete returned to Florida after an official visit to Eugene and moved the Ducks up his unofficial pecking order.

Oregon coach getting NFL buzz
“Oregon definitely top two right now,” he tells 247’s Steve Wiltfong. “Arkansas and Miami are coming up this week and they’re also top teams, as well as Kentucky, but my decision is coming in August so anything can change quick.”
Arkansas is the leader in his recruitment, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. Kentucky is in third just behind Miami.
Cutter Boley gets Big Offer
Cutter Boley‘s explosive summer continued over the weekend in Tuscaloosa. A 2025 quarterback that will attend Lexington Christian Academy this fall, Boley only had offers from Ole Miss and UK entering 2022. Since he started the camping circuit Missouri, Tennessee and Michigan jumped on board. Nick Saban hopped on the bandwagon this weekend.
Joe Schlarman Camps with Kentucky
It warms the heart to see a Schlarman rocking Kentucky blue. Before the Wildcats wrapped up summer camp last week, Joe Schlarman spent time working out with Zach Yenser and Drake Jackson on UK’s campus. The younger Schlarman, who plays center at Lexington Catholic, also visited his Old Man’s old stomping grounds with a trip to Troy this summer.
