Kentucky will again have multiple super seniors on roster in 2025

The 2025 college football season will be the fifth since the COVID-19 pandemic. That officially means that the players on rosters in 2020 have just about all cycled out of college football. The COVID seniors that received an extra year of eligibility are almost out of college football.
This will become a thing of the past in the very near future but Kentucky is using that extra year of eligibility to its advantage in 2025. The Wildcats will have seven players on the roster from the 2020 high school class. Plus another from the 2019 high school cycle.

- Joshua Braun (OL | 6-6, 342)
- Zach Calzada (QB | 6-4, 230)
- Josaih Hayes (DL | 6-3, 328)
- J.J. Hester (WR | 6-5, 201)
- Ja’Mori Maclin (WR | 5-11, 190)
- Daveren Rayner (LB | 6-2, 217)
- Alex Wollschlaeger (OL | 6-7, 310)
Expected starting quarterback Zach Calzada was a class of 2019 signee out Sugar Hill (Ga.) Lanier who received an additional seventh-year of eligibility due to a medical redshirt. Calzada will turn 25 years old during the 2025 college football season. Josaih Hayes was the only class of 2020 high school signee in this group for Kentucky. Ja’Mori Maclin and Daveren Rayner were former transfer additions who have now spent multiple years with the UK program. Joshua Braun, J.J. Hester, and Alex Wollschlaeger were added to the roster during the winter transfer portal window. Seth McGowan was added to the roster in the spring and may have an additional year of eligibility remaining after sitting out the 2021 season as he dealt with a legal issue stemming from an off-field arrest.
Many programs in college football look to get old and stay old with the massive roster turnover we are seeing each offseason due to the transfer portal. Kentucky did just that by taking advantage of the COVID-19 blanket eligibility rule one more time. That should gives the Cats an old starting lineup when the season rolls around on Labor Day weekend.
