Scholarship Tally: Kentucky is down to 81 scholarship players
Player movement never stops in modern day college football. On Wednesday morning, we learned of two more Kentucky players who will no longer be on the roster. The Wildcats now have some scholarship wiggle room.
Defensive lineman Sam Anaele and offensive lineman Josh Jones are both no longer members of the Kentucky football roster due to medical retirement. Per our count at KSR, we have Kentucky down to 81 scholarship players. There is some room to add some late transfer additions but the start of training camp is quickly approaching.
Let’s take a look at how Kentucky is spending its scholarship capital with talking season officially here as SEC Media Days is less than one week away.
Scholarship distribution
Per KSR’s count, Kentucky is spending the most scholarships on offense (40). Tackle depth is a concern with only five scholarship players left on the roster. The defensive line is still in a good spot. The Wildcats have now lost four players off the roster since wrapping up transfer portal recruiting after Jordan Anthony departed for Texas A&M and Jakob Dixon left for Eastern Kentucky.
