The Kentucky football team has been here before. It felt a little unusual when the Wildcats were picked to finish second in the SEC East. It only took one week for them to be usurped, this time by their upcoming opponent. After holding off Utah, the Gators jumped up to No. 12 in the AP Poll, the highest debut for a previously unranked team since 2016. Florida opened as a 4.5-point favorite and that line has already moved up a point in many sports books. Despite the public money on the Gators, the Cats remain confident in the underdog role.

“We’re very confident. We’re confident in our team, but we’re mostly confident in our preparation,” said senior Kenneth Horsey. “Coach Stoops says it all the time, confidence comes from your preparation. When you have good practice habits and good study film habits… all those habits transfer over onto the field.”

The first road test of the season for the Kentucky football team, upon Will Levis’ request the equipment staff amplified the artificial noise simulated in practice. The Cats are walking into a hornet’s nest as an underdog, and Mark Stoops wouldn’t have it any other way.

Familiar Kentucky Football Sight

Catching touchdown passes is nothing new to Dane Key. He just did it on a much bigger stage Saturday night at Kroger Field. When the Wildcat wide receiver turned to celebrate with his teammates, a familiar face was waiting, Jager Burton. It’s not the first, or the last time the two have shared a moment in the end zone.

“It felt really special to recreate that moment because me and Jager, we’ve always talked about playing in college,” Key said Tuesday. “And then after I scored, I didn’t realize it was Jager who lifted me in the air until I saw that picture. I was like, ‘Man, that was really something special, to have one of my closest friends that I knew in high school to be able to play with him again in college.'”

Barion Brown: The Fastest Kid in College Football

In the preseason Will Levis called back to Seth Rogen’s Superbad character to describe Barion Brown. “He’s the fastest kid alive.” That was not hyperbole. Last weekend Barion Brown was the fastest player in college football, recording 22 mph on his kickoff return touchdown.

Ramon Jefferson Sidelined by ACL Injury

Mark Stoops shared on Monday the running back would miss an extended period of time. Last night we learned why. Matt Jones reports Ramon Jefferson tore his ACL, likely ending his season. After grinding for five years at the FCS level, the injury happened on his second snap as a member of the Kentucky football team. Brutal. If Jefferson wants it, he can receive a medical waiver to receive one more year of eligibility, potentially changing the makeup of the running back room in 2023.

Shortly after those went live, ESPN’s Seth Greenburg joined Jack Pilgrim on Sources Say to discuss the Wildcats’ 2022-23 team. We’re keeping the content rolling this evening with a new edition of 11 Personnel and more from the Kentucky defense. Subscribe now to make sure you don’t miss a thing.

New Kentucky Basketball Uniforms are Here

The Kentucky basketball team will look different in 2022-23. Oscar Tshiebwe showed off the new home uniforms and the all-white is so fresh and so clean. Most importantly, the checkerboard is nowhere to be found.
