Kentucky Football Uniform: Debut of the Chrome Domes

Kentucky is hitting the road for the first time this season when Mark Stoops‘ squad opens SEC play at Vanderbilt. The Wildcats are bringing one of the Big Blue Nation’s favorite uniform combinations to the West End construction site.

The Vanderbilt Commodores will be blacking out their uniforms with black jerseys, pants and helmets. Kentucky is combatting the blackout with an icy look. The Wildcats will rock their all-white uniform and debut the chrome domes for the first time in 2023.

Kentucky is 10-13 under Mark Stoops when the Wildcats wear all-white uniforms, a decent number when you consider they’re exclusively worn on the road. This week the folks at UK selected Ray Davis to model the icy uniforms before the running back returns to Nashville to face his former school.

What You Need to Know before Kentucky vs. Vanderbilt

Blue gets in when Kentucky travels to nearby Nashville. This time Vanderbilt’s football stadium will look a little different. The recently renamed FirstBank Stadium is under construction as they undergo much-needed, large-scale renovations to the end zone. Renovations are shrinking the capacity of the stadium from around 40,000 to 28,500.

If you’re unsure exactly how to enter FirstBank Stadium in the most efficient manner possible, Vanderbilt Athletics has provided video tutorials from four different locations: 25th Avenue Garage, West Garage, Flat Lots Access Route and the Kensington Garage.

You do not need to wear a hard hat to welcome the Wildcats as they make their way to the temporary tents that will serve as locker rooms. The Cat Walk will be just outside gate 1 at 8:45 CT. Here’s where you can find Mark Stoops’ team.

Kickoff between the Cats and the Commodores is at 11 am CT, Noon EST. You can catch all of the action at KSBar and Grille, or from home, by tuning into the SEC Network. Taylor Zarzour, Matt Stinchcomb and Alyssa Lang will be on the call.
