Brian Robinson has kept his recruitment under wraps in recent weeks — in recent months, even. Prior to his surprise unofficial visit to Kentucky during the Wildcats’ season-opening win against Ball State, not much was known about which way he was leaning. But once the 6-foot-5, 250-pounder stopped in Lexington to link up with associate head coach Vince Marrow — who has been recruiting Robinson for years now — the momentum slowly began to swing back in favor of UK.

We could be inching closer to a decision, too.

On Tuesday morning, On3’s Director of Recruiting, Chad Simmons, wrote that Kentucky is “the school setting the pace” with Robinson right now. Michigan, Maryland, and Penn State continue to be involved, but it’s the Wildcats that appear to have the upper hand once again. Simmons did not provide a potential timeline, but there is a sense around KSR headquarters that Robinson could make the call sometime next week.

It should be noted that Robinson has not taken any additional visits in the two-plus weeks since he was at Kentucky. The class of 2024 EDGE prospect is considered a four-star prospect and the No. 131 overall senior in the country by the On3 Industry Ranking. He’s taken three official visits so far — all in the month of June — to Kentucky, Michigan, and Penn State.

But these aren’t the only reasons for optimism. 247Sports’ Director of Recruiting, Steve Wiltfong, switched his Crystal Ball pick on Tuesday morning, now projecting Robinson to land with Kentucky instead of Michigan. Accounting for predictions made by all three of On3, 247Sports, and Rivals, there are now a combined eight picks in favor of Robinson choosing the ‘Cats.

Kentucky rounding out the 2024 class

September is proving to be a pivotal month in Kentucky’s class of 2024 recruiting efforts. It started with three-star EDGE Lorenzo Cowan picking Kentucky over a week ago and continued this past Friday when the in-state four-star Smith twins, Jacob and Jerod, flipped from Michigan to Kentucky. More good news could be on the way too — not just with Robinson.

Three-star linebacker Devin Smith is set to announce his college decision this Friday. He’ll choose between Kentucky and LSU, but it’s the Wildcats trending as the favorite down the home stretch. The Brunswick (GA) High product is ranked No. 614 overall in the 2024 class, per the On3 Industry Ranking, and would be another huge recruiting win for the UK staff. Smith officially visited Kentucky the same week Robinson was in town.

After adding the Smith twins, Kentucky’s 2024 class (which includes 19 commits) jumped from 32nd to 26th in the country. If the staff can add Robinson and Devin Smith, it’ll jump even higher. After a slow start this cycle, the Wildcats could ultimately walk away with a borderline top-20 class in the country with plenty of blue-chip prospects on board.
