The Kentucky-Georgia early line is enticing

Mark Stoops’ football team is taking it one game at a time, but Las Vegas is looking ahead to next weekend. Before Kentucky hosts LSU and Georgia faces Auburn, the sportsbooks have an early line for the Cats and the Dogs.

Georgia is a 24.5-point favorite over Kentucky in the CBS showdown Between the Hedges.

For comparison’s sake, Arkansas was an 18.5-point underdog when the Razorbacks went to Sanford Stadium in a similar spot a week ago. Is Kentucky six points worse than Arkansas, particularly on defense? I don’t know about all that.

This line is even more intriguing when you consider how well Kentucky’s defense has played against the Dogs in the last two meetings. It was a scoreless tie at halftime in 2019 and last year Georgia only put up 14 points in Lexington.

Kentucky is 4-1 ATS this season and Georgia is undefeated, covering big numbers in every game except for the opener against Clemson. That well has to run dry for Georgia eventually, right? For Kentucky’s sake, let’s hope that doesn’t happen this Saturday on The Plains.

Now, enough looking ahead. Let’s get back to what’s at stake against LSU.

Stanford Steve likes Kentucky vs. LSU

Some folks around the Big Blue Nation are worried the Wildcats might suffer from a hangover following the Florida win. America’s favorite sports sidekick, Stanford Steve, is not so sure about that.

“Normally you would say Kentucky is in a let-down spot after a big win against Florida. I think this is the perfect scenario to get back and get your kids’ attention knowing that you have a chance,” he said on his podcast, Stanford Steve and The Bear. “LSU doesn’t come here often. We all know about the miracle in Lexington or whatever they call it down there in Baton Rouge way back with Saban. I can’t believe that game is 20 years old. That’s crazy to me.”

We do not need a reminder about that dreadful game, and neither does LSU, apparently. Devery Henderson isn’t walking through that door, and despite Brad White’s insistence, neither is an LSU rushing offense. That is ultimately why Scott Van Pelt’s righthand man is rocking with the Wildcats.

“If I had to pick this one I would take Kentucky and lay the three because the line even screams more. You got an undefeated team at home against a team with two losses only giving three. If LSU can’t run the ball, Kentucky can play defense with the best of them and now you’re telling me you only have to play the pass? That plays right into Stoops’s hand, so for me, it’s Kentucky or nothing.”
