Kentucky High School Boys' Sweet 16 Bracket is Set

The timing is different, but the format remains the same. Sixteen teams will travel to Lexington to compete for a state championship. Only one will win four straight games to take home the Sweet 16 crown.
Rupp Arena is hosting first round NCAA Tournament games this week. It forced the KHSAA to change up the schedule and postpone the boys’ Sweet 16 for a week. Six of the sixteen regions delayed their tournaments to prevent an extended break from the hardwood.
One of the last team’s to punch its ticket to Rupp, produced the most magical moment from a Regional Final. Montgomery County closed the game on a 14-1 run, finished by Cayden Reed’s buzzer-beating, banked-in three-pointer to beat George Rogers Clark 59-56.

The two Louisville regions decided to play their finals at their traditional time. After almost two weeks off, only one team will survive to the Sweet 16 quarterfinals.

Jeffersontown has won three of the last four Sixth Region titles. They’ll face the prohibitive favorite in the first round. St. X has not even been to the Sweet 16 to since 1995, but this year the Tigers have not lost a game to an opponent from the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The King of the Bluegrass and LIT champs have won 20 straight games entering the Sweet 16, seeking their first state title in the sport since 1962.

The action at Rupp Arena tips off next Wednesday, March 26. A champion will be crowned by Saturday night. Best of luck to all of the teams making the unforgettable trip to Rupp Arena for the Sweet 16.
