Kentucky High School Football Rankings: November 8

Week one of the playoffs was mostly filled with blowouts, causing few changes in the Top 25. Hazard, ranked No. 4 in Class A, edged Sayre 24-21, which came in ranked No. 5 in the class. That sets up a big-time Hazard at Pikeville matchup this week. Pikeville will look for vengeance after being upset by Hazard 21-12 in the same round of last year’s playoffs.

Week two of the playoffs will feature four Top 25 matchups: 

  • No. 13 Manual at No. 3 St. Xavier
  • No. 21 Ballard at No. 14 Trinity
  • No. 16 Lexington Catholic at No. 5 Boyle County
  • No. 24 Graves County at No. 12 Owensboro

Kentucky High School Football Top 25

1. Male – Nic Shutte passed for 196 yards and a touchdown and ran for a score in a 43-0 victory over Fern Creek. Starting running back Daniel Swinney missed the game due to injury.

2. Lexington Christian Academy – Drew Nieves threw for three touchdowns and ran for another in a 68-7 running clock victory over Washington County.

3. St. Xavier – Jack Sivori ran for a score and passed for three more, including two to Mekhi Smith, in a 48-0 blowout over Butler.

4. Corbin – Cameron Combs tossed three touchdown passes, including two to Seth Mills, in a 40-8 victory over Wayne County.  UK commit Treyveon Longmire had a touchdown run for Corbin.

5. Boyle County – Jagger Gillis was 6-for-6 passing for 102 yards and three scores in the Rebels’ 52-12 win over Anderson County. 

6. South Warren – WKU commit Caden Veltkamp passed for two touchdowns and ran for another, UK Christian Conyer had two touchdowns, and the Spartans scored on all six first-half possessions in a 47-6 victory over Christian County.

7. Johnson Central – Zack McCoart ran for a 65-yard touchdown on the first play from scrimmage, Carter Conley rushed for two touchdowns, and the Golden Eagles easily got by Clay County 56-7. Quarterback Grant Rice returned an interception for a touchdown and Mason Lemaster recovered a fumble on a Clay County punt for another score.

8. Beechwood – The Tigers rolled over Newport 58-8 to remain undefeated.  Cam Hergott passed for three touchdowns and ran for another.

9. Woodford County – Defeated Madison Southern 36-7 to remain undefeated. Bryce Patterson threw for 214 yards and two touchdowns.

10. Frederick Douglass – TJ Horton ran for three scores in a 57-7 victory over Montgomery County.

11. CAL – Cole Hodge ran for a TD and completed 13-of-20 passes for 163 yards and three touchdowns, including two to Easton Messer in a 45-14 win over Henry County

12. Owensboro – Kenyatta Carbon and Javius Taylor each rushed for two scores in an easy 42-7 win over Grayson County.

13. Manual – Defeated PRP 35-20. Manual’s start running back Jawaun Northington missed the game due to injury.

14. Trinity – Brady Willis tossed three touchdown passes and Amron Tucker rushed for two scores in a 76-0 shutout of Marshall County

15. Daviess County – Quarterback Joe Humphreys, a Mr. Football favorite, was 21-for-31 for 312 yards and three scores. He added two more scores on the ground in a 55-31 victory over McCracken County.

16. Lexington Catholic – Defeated Bourbon County 33-19

17. Pikeville – Defeated Phelps 49-0

18. Southwestern – Defeated Whitley County 41-6

19. Bryan Station – Defeated George Rogers Clark 45-0

20. Covington Catholic – Defeated Highlands 38-8

21. Ballard – Defeated Eastern 44-0

22. Franklin County – Defeated North Oldham 46-0

23. Mayfield – Defeated Ballard Memorial 60-0

24. Graves County – Defeated Breckenridge County 51-6

25. Glasgow – Defeated Hart County 42-13
