Kentucky is targeting South Florida wide receivers coach L'Damian Washington
Kentucky’s quiet wide receivers coaching search is about to come to a close less than two weeks after Daikiel Shorts Jr. left Lexington for Nebraska. Mark Stoops has gone to the American Athletic Conference to find his next full-time assistant coach.
Football Scoop’s John Brice reported on Saturday afternoon that South Florida wide receivers coach and pass game coordinator L’Damian Washington is expected to leave Tampa for the job opportunity at Kentucky.
“Mark Stoops is moving to hire L’Damian Washington away from Alex Golesh‘s South Florida program as Kentucky’s next offensive assistant, multiple sources tell FootballScoop.”
L’Damian Washington is a Louisiana native who played college football at Missouri from 2009-13. The wideout helped lead Mizzou to the SEC Championship Game in 2013 and finished that season with 50 receptions for 893 yards and 10 touchdowns. Washington went undrafted but spent two seasons on multiple practice squads in the NFL before playing in the Canadian Football League, Alliance of American Football league, and the XFL. Washington called it quits after 2020 and started his coaching career.

Washington became the wide receivers coach at Southern in 2021 and then moved to Oklahoma in 2022 to work under head coach Brent Venables and offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby. Washington then moved to South Florida in 2023 and spent the last two seasons working for former Tennessee offensive coordinator Alex Golesh in the Group of Five. Washington has been around the veer-and-shoot offense seen at Tennessee, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, and other over the last three seasons.
L’Damian Washington, 33, will become the seventh wide receivers coach for Mark Stoops. For the second hire in a row, Kentucky has gone with someone young at the position with recent playing experience. Washington will shortly join offensive coordinator Bush Hamdan and the rest of the offensive staff at the Joe Craft Football Training Facility as they look to re-tool Kentucky’s roster in the transfer portal.
