Kentucky volleyball hosting two top 3 teams in five days
The crazy week for No. 13 Kentucky volleyball begins Wednesday, Sep. 14 at 7 p.m. The in-state Louisville Cardinals will make the short commute to Memorial Coliseum after defeating Lipscomb 3-0 on Saturday.
Louisville boasts a 7-1 record on the year with its only loss coming to No. 5 Ohio State. Kentucky is 5-2 this season after splitting the weekend matchups against No. 4 Wisconsin and Indiana State. The Wildcats were swept on Friday night by the defending champion Badgers, but turned it around by sweeping Indiana State on Saturday afternoon.
Kentucky moved up in the AVCA coaches ranking one spot from last week to No. 13 after winning one and dropping one this past weekend. No. 2 Nebraska will come to Lexington on Sunday, making the week even sweeter for the Cats.
This hype is monumental
It seems that everyone around town knows just what this week means for the volleyball team. A whiteout is in effect for the Kentucky students attending the match versus Louisville. Admission to the game is free with a valid UK ID.
The crowds have been impressive thus far but the Wildcats will need a packed house in order to defeat their opponents this week. The challengers visiting Lexington are the highest-ranked opponents that Kentucky has seen all season.

World is Watching
Kentucky’s clash with its bitter rival Louisville will air on national television on Wednesday night. ESPN will air the game against the Cards, while the matchup versus the Cornhuskers on Sunday is scheduled for ESPN2 at 3 p.m.
The Wildcats will enter conference play after this week and will have tons of experience against top 25 teams. Kentucky has gone 1-2 against teams that are currently in the top 25 and have also beaten Southern California, which was in the top 25 at the time but has recently dropped out.
For now, the only focus is the Cardinals on Wednesday night. In-state pride is on the line and Cardinal is hopefully on the menu. Here’s to the weekend… but for now, Here’s to Wednesday.
