Kentucky hurdler Alexander Chukwukelu shines at Nigerian Outdoor Championships
Kentucky Track & Field hurdler Alexander Chukwukelu won the 110-meter hurdles at the Nigerian Outdoor Championships on Monday in Benin City, his first international title.
The freshman out of Forney, Texas ran a 13.82 in the preliminary rounds last Sunday, followed by a 13.92 on Monday to take gold. This was Chukwukelu’s first time back in Nigeria since 2010 — no better way to say ‘I’m back’ than taking first place in his event.

There’s a star in the making in Chukwukelu.
Chukwukelu set some high PRs during his freshman year at UK. His 110-meter hurdle PR of 13.73 at the Jim Greene Track & Field Invitational in April earned him a slot in the Top 100 of the NCAA in just his first year.
The African Athletics Championships in Cameroon began on June 21 and will run through June 26, where Chukwukelu will continue competing while representing both Nigeria and the Wildcats.
