Kentucky legend Dan Issel: "I like this 44"
Kentucky’s all-time leading scorer, Dan Issel, hadn’t tweeted in a year and a half — August 11, 2022. “UK is a basketball school!!” he wrote, responding to the John Calipari vs. Mark Stoops mid-summer feud when the Cats were in the Bahamas.
His most recent tweet before that? January 18, 2021.
The Horse isn’t too active on the ole X machine, selective on what he shares to the public.
Tonight? Well, he broke his silence to say what all of Big Blue Nation was thinking.
“I like this 44,” Issel, who scored 2,138 career points, said of Zvonimir Ivisic. He was there in person for the 7-2 freshman’s all-time debut, finishing with 13 points on 5-7 shooting to go with five rebounds, three blocks, two assists and two steals in 16 minutes.
Issel’s No. 44 jersey hangs in the rafters of Rupp Arena, arguably the most deserving player in the program’s rich history to earn the honor. No one was more productive over the course of a three-year period in Lexington.
If he’s drooling over Big Z, all of us are drooling over Big Z.
Can’t say we blame you, Dan.
