Kentucky Linebacker Trevin Wallace makes SEC All-Freshman Team

The postseason accolades continue to roll in for the Kentucky football program. This one does not go out to a veteran. Linebacker Trevin Wallace has been named to the SEC All-Freshman Team.
It’s the second straight season a Kentucky linebacker has been selected to the SEC’s All-Freshman Team. J.J. Weaver earned the honor following the 2020 season. DeAndre Square and Jacquez Jones were All-Freshman selections in 2018.
Wallace was a significant National Signing Day win for Kentucky in February of 2020. Initially committed to Auburn, those plans were scrapped following Gus Malzahn’s late December termination. Jon Sumrall’s lengthy relationship with Wallace convinced the No. 36 player in America to choose UK. It turned out well for both parties.

Playing in a reserve role to spell Jones and Square, Wallace shined. He played in all 12 games, recording 32 total tackles, four for loss, two sacks, a forced fumble, a pass breakup and a quarterback hurry. He earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors from his performance against Mississippi State — 12 tackles, two for loss — but it wasn’t his best moment of the year.
Wallace forever etched his name into UK lore with one spectacular play against Florida. The Gators lined up for a 48-yard field goal at Kroger Field to grow the lead to six. Josh Paschal pushed through the line to tip the ball right into Wallace’s hands. He sprinted 76 yards for a touchdown, securing Kentucky’s first win over Florida in Lexington since 1986.
