At the Half: Kentucky leads Louisville 13-7
Momentum is swinging all over the place in the Governor’s Cup. After one half of play, Kentucky leads No. 25 Louisville 13-7. The Cats were up 13-0 but the Cards got on the board with a six-yard touchdown run by Malik Cunningham, who did not start the game but came in halfway through the second quarter.
The game started off well. Will Levis and Dane Key put the Cats up 7-0 with 7:46 to go in the first quarter. After the defense stopped the Cards on fourth down in the red zone on the next drive, Kentucky drove the ball down to the Louisville 25-yard line and Matt Ruffolo hit a 43-yard field goal to make it 10-0 Cats. JJ Weaver came up with a huge fumble recovery on Louisville’s next drive to give Kentucky the ball at the Cards’ 6-yard line, but the Cats stalled, leading to another Ruffolo field goal to push the score to 13-0. As you know, Malik Cunningham cut that lead to six just before half.
Kentucky is really struggling to contain Louisville’s running game. So far, the Cards have 114 rushing yards on 24 carries compared to Kentucky’s 63 yards on 16 carries. Louisville has 11 first downs to Kentucky’s eight. The Cards get the ball to start the second half. Halftime adjustments, please!
