It’s Governor’s Cup Day in the Bluegrass.

Today at noon, your University of Kentucky Wildcats (6-5, 3-4) play the tenth-ranked Louisville Cardinals (10-1, 7-1) in whatever they call Cardinal Stadium these days. The Wildcats enter the game riding a four-game winning streak in the nasty rivalry, but Louisville is set up to take back the cup this year. The Cards are giving more than a touchdown in the desert.

On the other side, Kentucky’s locker room sees the regular season finale as an opportunity to rewrite the story of 2023. It’s too late to undo the wrongs in losses to Missouri and Tennessee and last week’s embarrassment at South Carolina. Still, the Big Blue Nation holds a special place for the teams that beat Louisville and bring the Governor’s Cup home.

Here’s what you need to know before today’s rivalry game, the 35th meeting between the Cats and Cards.
