Kentucky makes final six for JUCO NPOY Sean East
One of the top junior college point guards in the nation is considering Kentucky. Sean East, the 2022 NJCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Player of the Year, included the Wildcats among his list of finalists.
East will decide between Kentucky, BYU, Clemson, Missouri, Oregon and South Florida.
East, a 6-foot-3 point guard out of John A. Logan College, averaged 20.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 5.7 assists this season while shooting 53% from the field, 41% from three and 89% from the free-throw line. The lefty standout scored 20-plus points in 13 games and hit the 30-point mark six times, including a 43-point outing at the 2022 NJCAA DI Men’s Basketball Championship tournament. He earned NJCAA First Team All-America honors at the conclusion of his standout season.
“Sean is an outstanding basketball player but an even better person,” John A. Logan head coach Kyle Smithpeters said. “His work ethic is the best I have coached.”

In his lone JUCO season, East led John A. Logan to a 29-4 overall record, a Region 24 Championship title and an NJCAA Central District title, on top of a tournament birth. Prior to his time in JUCO, East played at UMass in 2019 and Bradley in 2020. He averaged 9.3 points and 4.9 assists per game at UMass and 9.0 points and 3.7 assists per game at Bradley. The 6-foot-3 guard shot 41% from the field and 33.3% from three in two years at the D1 level.
Sean East is rated as the No. 2 overall JUCO prospect in the nation and attends the same school as former standouts Jay Scrubb (LA Clippers), Sydney Curry (Louisville) and Jamarion Sharp (Western Kentucky). The Louisville, KY native was also Romeo Langford’s point guard at New Albany Senior High School.
East has visited both BYU and Missouri, with a trip to South Florida also scheduled for April 8-9.
Will Kentucky decide to make a serious push? We’ll find out in the coming weeks.
